Little Vitto, Vietri Sul Mare

Little Vitto, Vietri Sul Mare

The paint job is admittedly amateurish, but it all adds to the homely vibe. And they've got the colour combo pretty much spot on. Vitto the little run-around Vespa looks happy, and that's the main thing.

Sweetness and Light, Vietri Sul Mare

Sweetness and Light, Vietri Sul Mare

Nothing like a bright splash of colours, a generous sprinkle of porcelain plates and icons of your favourite monks to keep the house looking cheery. And if it brings on good luck as well, then all the better.

Without Boundaries, Berlin

Without Boundaries, Berlin

Once a symbol of distrust and division, the Berlin Wall is now home to a fantastic array of thought-provoking street art. The East Side Gallery invites us to imagine a world without boundaries and shows us just how universal is the language of freedom.

Triumph of the Arts, Vienna

Triumph of the Arts, Vienna

It's hard not to be impressed by the stateliness of Vienna's central district, with its princely architecture and classy Hapsburg vibe. That said, it's also a little like wandering around a giant, elaborate wedding cake. The neat, round Burgtheater was tailor-made to illustrate the point.

Hundertwasserhaus, Vienna

Hundertwasserhaus, Vienna

The playful exterior of the apartment complex is a mere prelude to the weird and wonderful surprises inside. Features like the undulating floors, offbeat mosaics and the kooky "Toilet of Modern Art" make this Viennese icon well worth an afternoon's exploration.

Attention, Eton

Attention, Eton

The Queen's Guards are renowned for their stoic composure. Sharply outlined in their traditional red jackets and bearskin caps, these chaps move through their paces with robotic precision. Why none of their chin straps go around their actual chins remains a mystery.

Nature's Rest, Cavtat

Nature's Rest, Cavtat

An idyllic spot on the beautiful Dalmatian coast. The view was like a balm for the eyes and soul. Capturing the image was a little tricky though, given the dappled light and shadows thrown by overhanging trees, but the natural colours are a testament to God's amazing handiwork.

Last Rays, Dubrovnik

Last Rays, Dubrovnik

On the last day of the year, the sun sets aflame Dubrovnik's medieval city walls. Despite its popularity, Cafe Buza is a literal hole-in-the-wall that retains an undiscovered feel. A perfect place to drink in the view with a beer or two.

Fort Lovrijenac, Dubrovnik

Fort Lovrijenac, Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik's St Lawrence Fortress keeps its vigilant watch over the sea. Must be doing a pretty good job because it's all looking very peaceful.

Window to the Sea, Dubrovnik

Secret Garden, Dubrovnik

Secret Garden, Dubrovnik

Probably one of the quirkiest features along Dubrovnik's old walls — and hence my favourite — is this sweet little basketball court. The entrance is nestled among the twisting alleyways and steep staircases of the Old Town. Be sure to bring a ball with you.

Halcyon Days, Margate

Halcyon Days, Margate

Like much of Margate with its puzzling mix of shambling dereliction and hipster funkiness, this eclectic combination of ice-cream bar and vintage furniture shop doesn't necessarily make sense on paper, but has a funny way of turning heads.

Morning Tea, Macau

Morning Tea, Macau

A walk through Macau old town is like jumping into a time warp to 70s Canton. Street stalls like this little herbal tea shop looks completely untouched by time.

Back in Time, Taipa

Back in Time, Taipa

Old-school nostalgia at the Sei Kee Cafe in Taipa, renowned for their glorious Macanese classic, the pork chop bun. They are really good. Really. Good.

Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong has painted a lovely collection of murals across the city, inspired by his memories of Singapore's yesteryear. Gives not only a touching insight into local history but Asian heritage too. Find them all if you can.

Portals, Singapore

Portals, Singapore

The city-state's layered roots are radiantly expressed in its mish and mash of culture, food and architectural style. East meets West here to create something that is altogether its very own.

True Romance, Venice

True Romance, Venice

Venice in one shot. for me, really the most extraordinary and captivating city in the world.

Love Boat, Burano

Love Boat, Burano

The islands within a vaporetto ride of central Venice are not only picturesque, but also make for a slightly more leisurely, gentle-paced sightseeing. Burano is famous for lace, Murano famous for glass.

San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice

San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice

Sitting across the Grand Canal from St Mark's Square, the church of San Giorgio Maggiore is one of those instantly recognisable landmarks that features in just about every movie ever set in Venice. And why wouldn't it? It sparkles like a gem on its watery mantle.
